Invasive Colonisation - Sculpture by the Sea 2012
Invasive Colonisation was inspired by invasive marine species such as the Northern Pacific Sea Star. The works investigate how some of these species cluster together to breed and overwhelm environments creating a seemingly impossible problem to fix. The works are lit from the inside at night to mimic the use of bioluminescence used by various species to attract prey.
Each sculpture is built from 300 hand sculpted ceramic forms connected together to create the fluid organic shape.
The three artworks were exhibited at Sculpture by the Sea Bondi in 2012 where they won the Art Gallery Society of NSW Prize.
